Our research group focuses mainly on the molecular mechanisms of action and detoxication of exogenous and endogenous chemicals and toxic agents. Of particular interest are aspects of molecular biology related to biochemical toxicology. These include studies of the expression of genes related to detoxication and activation enzymes toxicants with modes of action involving effects on nucleic acids gene expression and protein synthesis and the toxicity of compounds derived from diet and drugs.

We investigate these processes with particular focus on the actions and regulation of cytochrome P450 and other drug metabolizing enzymes in the liver, lung and brain. Biochemical and molecular biological techniques are used to identify and characterize factors that regulate the transcription of genes encoding these enzymes, so as to better understand the role..
